I am not an expert in many of these scams people use for citizenship, my situation was unique. The many questions I have received from e mails ask questions that many already know the answer. Some of the mail is from people who were not a victim, but just in a failed marriage.
Victims are people who have been used, only for citizenship. They have tolerated above normal conditions in their relationship, have most likely been abused, financially taken advantage of, cheated on, and blindsided by the real purpose of these immigration scammers. Make no mistake about this, Citizenship is the only goal with these scammers, using you, your trust and love and assets are just a tool to accomplish their goal. The fact is they sell their self to accomplish this goal. You might not realize that at first, but in the end it is what it is.
How do you protect yourself from this abuse of trust? The law states that the green card is either a two year or ten year, and after five years they may become citizens with the proper requirements. Apply for the two year green card only, give it time.
If you have any doubt, before you marry, as said have a back round check done. Make sure you have a prenuptial agreement. If you have doubts, explore them. The majority of the e mails received from victims, reveal a patterns that almost all have in common, internet marriage, monies sent to so called family, friged type personalities, relationship was more of a business then a relationship, constant “picture taking by the scammer”, non social with family or friends, not allowed to socialize with “their” friends. Hidden e mail account(s), the list goes on! If you feel that you are being used only for citizenship, take these steps and wait, first do not keep joint bank accounts or stop, second learn the language, socialize as a couple, learn about the “friends”. With many of these scammers they seek out the same type, ( I know this for a fact) Learn the Network! Stop allowing monies to be wired or sent out to their so called family, and do not sponser any of their family for anytype of visa, unless you are comfortable within your relationship. Re-focus on the relationship. If you are certain that the marriage is only for citizenship, then get a divorce or annulment, report it to the Department of Homeland Security. If not you may be like many of the people who have wrote me, Who have done everything right within a relationship, only to have it end with a scammers citizenship. The only mistake everyone shares equally is the trust they gave to these people. I am glad not all of these internet marriages are just for citizenship; there are couples that I know whose only goal was to find a good spouse.
